The Cormorant is our main line boat. It is a classic hard-chine kayak based on traditional Greenland kayaks. Its shallow "V" bottom and moderate rocker make it a stable and responsive boat, well suited to both the beginning paddler as well as the seasoned kayak enthusiast. This is a medium/high volume boat which has ample capacity for week-long trips. The hull shape of the Cormorant differs from most hard-chine kayaks in having the chine rising as it approaches the bow and stern of the boat. The result is a better handling and more responsive boat. While tracking is enhanced with the kayak in normal upright stance, leaned turns are easier because the raised chine causes the hull to act as a shorter boat when leaned. The 18 foot version has slightly higher side panels for increased capacity. It is well suited to extended touring. Click here for a VRML (virtual reality) look at the Cormorant 18 hull shape. If you get a text file instead of the VRML image, check here for more information. Key Features
