The Cormorant is our main line boat.  It is a classic hard-chine kayak based on traditional Greenland kayaks.  Its shallow "V" bottom and moderate rocker make it a stable and responsive boat, well suited to both the beginning paddler as well as the seasoned kayak enthusiast.  This is a medium/high volume boat which has ample capacity for week-long trips.

The hull shape of the Cormorant differs from most hard-chine kayaks in having the chine rising as it approaches the bow and stern of the boat.  The result is a better handling and more responsive boat.  While tracking is enhanced with the kayak in normal upright stance, leaned turns are easier because the raised chine causes the hull to act as a shorter boat when leaned.

The 18 foot version has slightly higher side panels for increased capacity.  It is well suited to extended touring.

Key Features

Hull constructed of 4mm BS 1088 Okoume marine plywood, impregnated with marine grade epoxy and sheathed with 6 oz. fiberglass cloth on the exterior.  Interior seams are reinforced with two layers of 9 oz. fiberglass tape.
Deck constructed of cambered 3mm BS 1088 marine plywood, impregnated with marine grade epoxy and sheathed on the interior with 4 oz. fiberglass cloth for added strength and stiffness.
Hulls painted with marine grade polyurethane enamel in your choice of color (varnished hull optional at no additional cost).  Decks finished with marine varnish to accent the warm glow of the natural wood.
Fully rigged deck including shock-cord, full deck perimeter line, and custom carrying toggles.
All deck hardware is recessed to minimize spray from waves.
Fore and aft structural bulkheads.  Front and rear  flush hatches give water-tight access to roomy cargo space.
Yakima adjustable footbraces, standard.
The Cormorant 16 has a length of 16' 2" with a maximum beam of 22 1/2".   At 225# displacement, the waterline length is 14' 2" and the waterline beam 21".  The Cormorant 18 has a length of 18' 2" with a maximum beam of 22 1/2".  At 250# displacement the waterline length is 15' 11" and the waterline beam 21".  The Cormorant SE has a length of 15' 9" with a maximum beam of 22 1/2".  At 200# displacement the waterline length is 13" 9" and the waterline beam is 21".
